I am a sophomore at Roosevelt, I am involved in Drama and vocal music. Mostly any singing activities. I also enjoy biking, and swimming, WATCHING MOVIES, and reading.
I spent most of my summer vacation at Lake Cornelia, my family has a cabin up there. So, I spent most of my time swimming, walking, boating, or reading. I spent way too much of the summer re-reading the Harry Potter books, one of my all-time favorite series. Although I was a little disappointed to see that the summer was over, I am excited for my classes!

Right now I’m on swim team, so that’s basically my life right now. I love traveling and writing, and I hope to go into journalism when I’m older.

When I’m not swimming, at school, or doing school work, I’m hanging out with friends and having fun. I spent my summer just relaxing and going to concerts. I’m sad to see summer leave, but I’m really excited to start school!

My name is Katryna Rice-Krause. I am in your third hour AP US History class. I enjoy learning about the past because I believe it will tell us about our future, and if we don’t know about our past, we are doomed to repeat it. For that reason, I like all of history.
I am a junior at Roosevelt and enjoy to read about religions, another reason I like to learn about history. My summer was spent working for my Dad’s law firm and HyVee.

Hey, I’m Liza Mitrofanova, a junior in your 2nd period APUSH class. I’ve been going to central since eight grade and used to go to valley. Now I’m in the IB program and kind of enrolled in Roosevelt… although I don’t have any classes there. I’ve done cross-country for two years and hoping I’ll manage it this year, but IB is definitely getting in the way, seeing as my school day gets out at 3:10.
    Hmm…
I spent the summer working, reading, and passing the time with friends.
It was absolutely splendid and I miss it already, but I’m super stoked for autumn.

Well, thats about it so I guess I’ll see you the rest of the school year!

Hi everyone! I’m Jessica Maciel and I’m in APUSH 3rd period, I go to Lincoln High School, last year I took AP Euro, so I think I’m still stuck a little on Europe and the Renaissance and the period of Louis the 14th, but I’m really eager to learn about America and get to see more of how both Europe and America tied. I’m in orchestra, NHS, and YLI, and Science Bound. If you need anything just ask! :)

    Tyler Thompson p.5
Hey, I’m Tyler Thompson in period 5 World Civ. I’m probably the biggest internet user in the world right now, if the olimpics had an internet event, I’d get the gold, hands down, *laughing*. It’s funny I’m watching the closeimonies (closing ceremonies for those of you that havn’t seen homestarrunner.com) as I type this. I can’t wait until 2012, my parents say that if Chicago gets picked as the host city, they might buy me a ticket to the Olympics for my graduation present! Although, I almost rather get a laptop because I could use that for college, but going to the Olympics is an experience that’s worth more than a computer (especially with the price of a ticket…). I hope that this year is kind to everyone of my class-mates.

    Rock On,
    Tyler Thompson

P.S. I like rock music (especially speed metal)

Hey there. My name is Anna Swan – currently taking APUSH, period 2 – and I’m a junior at Hoover. This summer I went on a European Tour with the Iowa Ambassadors of Music, and had the time of my life. Actually, my favorite thing in the world is music, mostly of the indie-rock genre, and I love, love, love going to concerts. I’m unsure of my favorite period in history, but I tend to lean towards around the 1960s, when good music began to sweep the nation…

I went to Michigan this summer to visit my grandma and great grandpa and i really love it there, especially the beaches! I like spending time with my friends and family.. I’m hoping this year will be exciting but not overwhelming. Not quite sure what my favorite part in history would be because I haven’t studied it as much as I’d like.. I’m sure I’ll find out soon enough.

I’m also in the HOPE! drama troupe and spend waaaayyy too much time watching my favorite show, Will & Grace. I’ve been really interested in the colonial era of US history ever since I went to Williamsburg when I was 8, but there’s something about the twenties that has always intrigued me. I’m excited for this year!

Hi I’m Sarah Ramundt, I’m in World Civ. period 5. I’m a 9th grader at Roosevelt where I play softball and volleyball and also highly involved in band.
My favorite time period would probably be…the middle ages or the 18th century. I’m a huge Jane Austen nut so that’s probably why I love the 18th century.
In my free time (the little I have) I love to read and listen to my trusty iPod.

I like to hang out with my friends and family. I tend to do or say random things every now and then. My favorite period of history is probably the second World War. Jeannene Clark, period 5 World Civ(ilizations. . . or ics. I’m not sure)

Ninth grade, bassoon, alto saxophone, reading, writing, country music, brown hair, blue glasses, green eyes, Roosevelt High School, sarcasm, and cynicism are words that either describe me or are hobbies of mine. Obviously not in any given order, otherwise ’sarcasm’ would be first, but who really cares? ;-)

You, Mrs Snyder, know me from last year Government class, actually. Deepest condolences for another year.

    Ben Turbes
    Period 2 – APUSH

I am a sophomore at Lincoln Highschool. I am in band and hopefully swimming if I can make time for it. I love anything to do with computers and am able to do most anything with a computer if I have the desire to do so. History is not one of my favorite subjects, but I decided I would get more out of APUSH at Central than I would out of regular US History at Lincoln.

    Mia Siebrasse
    Pd. 6

Hi, I’m Mia, and I’m a junior at West Central Valley. I commute a long way. I’m actually hoping to open-enroll in Roosevelt. I’m interested in linguistics, languages (I’m in my third year of Japanese), and biology, and I love to take pictures, draw, read, and write. I like to change the style of my handwriting constantly, but it all ends up about 3 mm tall anyway. I like to think I try very hard when I’m motivated. During summer vacation I took up an internship at the Blank Park Zoo, and read Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Freakonomics, Watership Down, Howl’s Moving Castle, Me Talk Pretty One Day (David Sedaris) and… a few others.

I’m Sam Hiatt and I’m in Mrs. Snyder’s sixth period class. This is my first year of world history so I don’t know to much, but I’d have to say my favorite time period is the colonization of the American colonies.

  44. #44 Jessica Peugh
    on Aug 25th, 2008 at 4:27 pm

Jessica Peugh, period six World Civ.

I absolutely adore history and I love learning as much as I can about it. My favourite period would have to be during World War I and II because a lot of different emotional art styles sprung up in that time. Obviously, I love art as well. It’s one of my biggest passions along with violin and gaining an excellent education. I’m a pro at procrastination, but I’m working on it. ;]

I also enjoy going to math and science competitions and am in general a nerd – I plan to go to either Franklin W. Olin College or MIT and major in Computer or Aerospace Engineering. My favorite music includes Techno and/or Post-Hardcore bands such as MSTRKRFT, Digitalism, Underoath, Versus the Mirror, and a lot of unheard-of bands. Oh, I also love to read fantasy/sci-fi and fiction and averaged about 300 pages a day this summer.

    3rd Period APUSH
Hi, I’m Anna Lyons. I’m a sophomore at Valley, and am involved in mock trial, debate, and golf. This summer I went to Japan, and was fortunate enough to learn about Japanese history, so I’m interested to learn about the foreign relations between the two countries. I also went to debate camp, where I learned about Native Americans and their struggles with the federal government, so I’m hoping that APUSH can help me understand their relationship better. My favorite period in history is subject to change, but, at the moment its the Age of Enlightenment. I’m interested in this time period because it marked the shift from absolute faith in the Church to a more rational, intellectual, and empirical schools of thought. I also like this time period because it laid the framework for new political and social theories.

    Kelsey Lange
    Period 6 APUSH

Hello, I’m Kelsey. I recently transferred from Valley and to Roosevelt High School. This is my sophmore year and I’m actually excited to be back at school. The summer was becoming boring and I missed seeing everyone at school. I love music. I love art. I love to swim. I love to eat. I love to sleep, and am going to miss it this year. I constantly change my mind on everything, like how I’ve gone back and edited this little post about 5 times already…

  53. #53 Rebecca Rasmussen
    on Aug 25th, 2008 at 7:37 pm

Hi there, I’m Rebecca Rasmussen and in fifth period World Civ. I’m at Central for six out of seven periods of the day, but I’m a ninth grader at Roosevelt for the other period. Right now, I’m mainly revolving my life around volleyball and homework, so I guess those are my two main interests at the moment. But when I’m not doing either of those, I am writing and reading and making my family/friends laugh. :-) I’d have to say that my favorite time period is when the Egyptians were at their peak, which I guess the historical name for that is the Old Kingdom (Um, I’ll have to thank the internet for helping me find that one, I had no idea that was it’s specific name, but I guess that’s why I’m taking World Civ.)

Oh yeah, and my favorite period in history would probably be Renaissance, if I’m allowed to pick something outside of the US. I like it because of the extremity and change within the period.

I also love the Renaissance festival. :)

Hi There, I’m Ivy Elwell and I’m a Sophomore at Roosevelt High School. I am in Period 2. I am extremely involved in Drama, Color Guard/Band, and Choir. I love all of the arts and I love to sing. I don’t really care too much for history, I like what’s happening here and now. So I’d say the 1950’s would be the most interesting. Yay School!

Hi. I’m Emily Baker from 6th period. I am always busy. I do cross country, basketball, and soccer. I work at Jordan Creek Animal Hospital where I pretty much just walk dogs among other various stuff. This summer I went up to Boston and Maine. Go Red Sox! It was really fun and the Fourth of July fireworks in Boston were insane. Otherwise i just worked and hung out with my friends. I don’t really know what my favorite time period in history is, but I really enjoy learning about wars and why they started and ended and what happened throughout, so I’m mostly excited for the Civil War unit.

    on Aug 27th, 2008 at 1:24 pm

Hi, I’m Maddie Pierce. I’m in your World Civics, period 1 class.

This summer my sister, Miranda and I went with our grandparents on a 6 day car ride to California. On the way, we stopped in Santa Fe, New Mexico and visited the Grand Canyon. Our journey ended in Santa Barbara, California where my grandparents live and we stayed there for a month. After that we flew from Orange County to Salt Lake City to visit our uncle. We stayed with him for a week before taking the train back home.

I really think I will enjoy this history class out of all the others that I have taken because I really think I will like learning about other countries history rather than just ours.

Hello, my name is Katie. I live with my parents and dog, while my sister is away at college. I love animals and plan on doing something scientific with my life, so history isn’t my strong point. The time in history that I am most interested in is probably the near past because it’s when all the modern technology and conveniences that I use today were invented. Then again, after learning about Reagan, I’m not too happy that the rich are still getting richer and the poor will continue to stay poor.

    on Aug 28th, 2008 at 7:23 pm

Hi, my name is Ruth Minahan. I am in your World Civ Class, period five. So far I have really enjoyed your class! I found the mini-unit on genocide sad, but very interesting all the same. My favorite period in history is probably the Renaissance age. I have read some books from that era and found everything about the time period sort of “charming” (except for the beheading, poisoning, ect.).
A little about me; I was born in Pennsylvania, and since then lived in three states, five cities, and seven houses. I am an avid swimmer (I am on the Roosvelt Varsity Team! Woo!) and biker and love all sports in general. This summer, I even rode my first RAGBRAI! I had a great time and hope to do it next year. In addition, I play the violin and take private lessons. All these things have added up to a pretty hectic schedule, but I still wish to have a great year in class!
I like all types of music except for Country Western and the generic Classical music. I am pretty handy on the computer and can get carried away when writing/blogging (as you can probably tell). I am excited about taking your class and I will try my best and hope to do well!

    See you tomorrow,
    Ruth Minahan
