Hello! I thought you might want to learn a little about me to begin our year. I have been teaching for 13 years, seven of those with Des Moines Schools. I taught at Carlisle High and East High previously. I earned my Master’s of Science in Education degree at Drake University in May 2007 with an emphasis in curriculum writing. I have taught an assortment of classes at Central Academy including 8th grade government, World Civilizations, AP World History, AP US History and a new one last year: 9th grade World History: People and Places (a.k.a. AP Human Geography).
My undergraduate degree is in history and secondary education from the University of Iowa-go Hawks! My areas of emphasis are Civil War history, Cold War history and ancient Greece and Rome-although, honestly, I love all periods of history! I live in Carlisle with my husband, Matt, and two children-Katherine, 11, and Riggen, 7. When I am not teaching, I enjoy reading, scrapbooking, exercising and hanging out with my friends and family.
I really enjoy traveling and am attempting to make it to every continent! I still have a couple to go (ok, a few) including Africa, Antarctica and South America. I studied for a summer in Australia and in 2009 I traveled to China! Last summer I vacationed in Minnesota with the family and sold/bought a new house! This summer, 2011, I traveled to Germany! It was wonderful and so full of history!
