I am altering the APUSH syllabus. For the week of 4/16, you need to read pp. 1049-1069 & 1078-1087 in your text. These pages concern Johnson and Nixon’s foreign policies during the Cold War and specifically speak to Vietnam. We will take an OPEN note test over chapters 26-27 and these pages around April 23/24. Then, we will discuss important SOCIAL, domestic changes for two weeks. These social changes are found in chapter 28 and on pp. 1070-1078. Please have this read by 4/26-4/27. If you are presenting on chapter 28 you will present April 30/May 1. If you are presenting on chapter 29, you will present on April 19/20. Zinn questions over chapter 18 will be OPTIONAL and enrichment credit due April 19/20. Zinn questions over chapter 17 (civil rights) will be DUE April 30/May 1 for required credit. The top 40 events quiz will still occur Thursday, April 19/Friday, April 20. I do believe this is a positive change and will greatly increase your understanding of the Cold War and its changes over time. I also believe taking more time on the civil rights movements and social changes will be more beneficial to you. Thanks for adapting to the changes and I’m looking forward to your great questions about US history in the second half of the 20th century which is now commonly referred to as “America’s Century.” Cheers, Mrs. S
